Passenger Transportation Plan (PTP)
Background: The PTP is a annual coordinated effort between the transportation providers and human service agencies providing service for the Ames community conducted by the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO). The purpose is to enhance transportation access, minimize duplication of services, and facilitate the most appropriate cost-effective transportation possible with available resources. The efforts focus on transportation for the low-income, elderly and disabled populations. The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) requires that federal/state transit funding be part of the PTP coordination process. CyRide (Ames public transit provider) provides the staff to facilitate this process.
Process: PTP meetings are held monthly during the Story County Human Service Council (HSC) meetings as part of their agenda if applicable. The HSC meets at 130 Sheldon (in Ames) in the auditorium portion of the facility from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. The AAMPO is responsible to provide an update this year, as they met all the requirements for the FY2010 PTP plan and only minimal changes were needed. Therefore, AAMPO staff will have the HSC and transportation providers review previously approved projects and their status, request any new transportation needs and finally request changes to the recommended projects for FY2011-FY2014. The meeting dates, presentation/discussions/updates from each meeting are/will be identified below:

Human service agencies/transportation providers were requested to vote to recommend needs & projects/strategies to the AAMPO policy committee for approval into 2011 PTP Update. |
| Thursday, February 25, 2010 | CyRide FY2011 Improvements were shared with the HSC group. The improvements explain a new proposed route map and timetables out to E. 13th/Dayton businesses a priority of the HSC group since 2006. Comments were requested on the new service. |
| Thursday, March 25, 2010 | PTP Update - Minor changes were made to the document (see below) per the IDOT's review and have been recommended to the AAMPO Policy Committee for approval on March 23, 2010. The update will then be forwarded to the Iowa DOT and Federal Transit Administration by May 1, 2010. |
| Thursday, April 22, 2010 | PTP/CyRide Update - Issues were shared at the meeting including: Summer Changes, Google Transit, School Tours, and the REDESIGNED Intermodal Facility. |
