Ames FY2009-2012
Passenger Transportation Development Plan (PTDP) Process

The PTDP is a coordinated effort between the transportation providers and human service agencies providing service for the Ames community.  The efforts focus on transportation for the low-income, elderly and disabled populations and will be an annual process for the Ames community.  The plan is the responsibility of the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.  CyRide is providing the staff to facilitate this process.

Staff met with the Human Services Council on October 25, 2007 discussing the overall PTDP process.  Discussions involved ideas for better participation and involvement between transit providers and human service agencies/organizations.

As a result of this initial October meeting, the PTDP planning process will be coordinated through the Human Services Council monthly meeting as their "program".  The Council meets at 130 Sheldon in the auditorium portion of the facility.  The meeting dates, powerpoint presentations/discussions and minutes from each meeting are identified below:

The Final Ames Area 2009 Passenger Transportation Development Plan was recommended by the PTDP committee (transportation providers/human service agencies) on February 28, 2008 to be submitted to the Ames MPO committees for approval at their March 2008 meetings.  The Ames MPO Technical committee met at 9:00am; March 17, 2008 at Ames City Hall City Council Chambers.  This committee made no additional changes to the PTDP document and recommended the plan to the Policy Committee for final approval.  The Ames MPO Policy met at 6:30pm; Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at City Council Chambers and approved the Ames Area 2009 Passenger Transportation Development Plan.  This final approved 2009 PTDP document is below:

As a result of discussion with the potential local funding partners on Tuesday, March 25th, a decision was made to proceed with the New Freedom and STA Coordination grant applications for transportation between Ames and Iowa City for medical purposes.  The requests for this service that could be quantified by human service agencies was 13-19 individuals per week.  The service concept can be viewed here:  Iowa City Service Conceptual Draft Proposal.  Local funders may consist of one or all of the following:  Story County Community Foundation, United Way of Story County, Heartland Senior Services, Story County and City of Ames.
