When is your NEXT BUS?
Posted Date: 8/14/2017 7:00 AM

CyRide encourages passengers to utilize our newly acquired bus prediction service called NEXT BUS.  It allows passengers to see exactly where the bus is at, at anytime and its predicted time of arrival at your bus stop location by using the web, telephone or mobile device.  To start using NEXT BUS, click here or find out more about this new technology on CyRide's NEXT BUS Userguide

For a little background, NEXT BUS technology is based upon Global Positioning Satellite and cellular technology where buses communicate directly with a server and databases. Information uploaded includes the bus’ current location and its rate of progression through its route. Based on historical averages, day of the week and time of day, the databases make an algorithmic calculation that provides arrival predictions to a customer through their telephone, smartphone or computer.

CyRide's bus stops have two signs associated with each shop:  one with "Cy" waiting fNEXTbus bus stopor the bus and the other a separate NEXT BUS bus stop sign as shown.  Each NEXT BUS sign has their own unique identification number, a local telephone number, a text message number and a QR code.  Passengers can also find their stop numbers at  To make things easier, you can keep track of your frequently used bus stops identification numbers by utilizing CyRide's NEXTbus Wallet Card

Finally, four large LED digital signs are placed on Iowa State University campus at major transfer locations providing bus arrival information for passengers waiting at these bus stop locations. These four locations are: Student Services, Upper Friley Hall, Kildee Hall and Bessey Hall.
