CyRide is now
publishing route problems using text messages to your mobile phone
over Twitter! You can use this new service to keep you in the loop
even when you’re away from your computer!
Get your Twitter
Account
-
Go to
http://www.twitter.com/cyride
-
Start by clicking the big “Join today!” button at the top
of the screen.
-
Follow Twitter’s instructions to finish creating your new
account.
That is everything
you need to do to get on Twitter! If you only want to keep track of us when
you’re on the Internet, that is great. But to really get everything
out of this great service, you should enable text messages on your
phone (service charges may apply, check with your wireless provider.
Remember this feature will send texts from everyone you "follow".):
Get Text
Messages (aka SMS) On Your Mobile Phone from CyRide
-
On your home Twitter account page at the bottom, you’ll
see “Turn on your mobile phone." Click that link.
-
Enter your mobile phone number, check the box authorizing
Twitter to send you
text messages, and click “Save.”
-
Twitter will provide you with an authorization code to
confirm that you own the phone number. From your mobile phone,
send a text message with that code to 40404.
-
Once Twitter confirms that it received your text message,
send the message on cyride to 40404 enabling messages from
CyRide’s account. (You can turn on/off this option by going to your
Twitter account under Settings/Devices and updating your Device updates
to OFF. Don't forget to SAVE before exiting! You can also
turn off updates during certain hours within this area))
CyRide only sends
out detours, service problems, and other route disruptions on Twitter to
keep the number of text messages manageable. Check out your text plan with
your wireless carrier for applicable charges as Twitter will send text to
your phone for everyone you follow!
